1.- Why dreampop?
There is something so unique about the genre, nothing else sounds like it. I find the ability to create music from noise inspiring and dream pop will remain to be one of my favourite genres because of its craziness, calmness and diversity. I listen to music to make me feel something and I write it in the hope it will have that effect on my listeners as well.
2.- How did you meet (if there are several) and if you are a soloist: How did you start your creative solo process?
I started by writing acoustic demos and posting them to Soundcloud before transitioning to electronic production because I wanted my sound to be fuller with more layers and textures to enhance my vocals.
3.- Where do you frequently create (your) music? In which space (s)? And how do you invest your (their) times in creation?
I have made music in so many places including cupboards, cars, hotel rooms, fields, studios and my own bedroom! I am thankful that with modern technology the music making process has become accessible and portable so really anywhere can be your studio which is extremely exciting and inspiring.
4.- Do you (s) already have live concerts? What are the most important and where did they go?
I am hoping to play a lot more live concerts across the UK and Europe within the next few years.
5.- What do you think is the ep or hit song of your band and why?
I think ‘Still’ is the sleeper hit of Yellow Belly and people also tell me they really like ‘Are You Ready To Be Happy Yet?’ – I’m hoping that the reason why is because the messages of the songs are somehow relatable and/or hopefully helping the listener in some way.
6.- What references did you take to create your music?
I listen to an absolutely huge variety of different kinds of music and try to draw out the beauty from each and reimagine it in a Yellow Belly format!
7.- Any anecdote in a band or soloist’s live performance or show
No two gigs are the same and each and every one of them have been an entirely different experience but one very memorable event was that I got hiccups and had to sing the full 20 minute set to the most supportive audience! I could not have asked for more lovely people, they were really kind and understood that we are all human and things can go wrong! Haha!
8.- What do you enjoy most of your music?
I enjoy being able to express myself almost entirely in a creative environment. I think I’m not alone in saying I make music to heal and overcome.
9.- What do you think about the creation of the Dream Dream pop platform? Do you think (s) that this space is necessary?
I think it allows fans to explore artists more intimately in this interview format and I am very grateful that this space is here so I do believe it is necessary for Indie artists especially when there is so much coverage of the mainstream.
10.- A message that you want (want) to deliver or free words from the band to the readers
Thank you to to Dream Dreampop for the opportunity for this interview and thanks to every single person who has listened to, followed, liked and bought a Yellow Belly Album, EP, Merch Piece or Concert Ticket, you are all awesome!!!
