Sobre I Wanna Get Better de «Colatura»
Jennica: «Escribí esta canción cuando me sentía estancada en la vida y como si hubiera decepcionado a mi yo de joven. En el instituto, tenía un montón de sueños de futuro y sentía que tenía mucho potencial, pero la edad adulta no ha estado a la altura y ha sido mucho más difícil de lo que esperaba. Así que la canción es una carta de amor a mi yo del pasado: una disculpa por no haber cumplido aún con sus expectativas y un recordatorio para disfrutar de la inocencia juvenil mientras puedas. Es nostálgica, un poco autocompasiva, pero al final sigue siendo esperanzadora«. Grabamos el vídeo en los alrededores de la Universidad de las Artes de Manhattan, donde crecí, y las tomas de la banda en el auditorio de mi antigua escuela primaria.
Colatura crea música que vive en un punto intermedio: a veces onírica, a veces intensa, con guitarras distorsionadas y una narrativa emotiva y cruda. Con una larga tradición en la escena de Brooklyn, la banda se mudó a Pittsburgh en 2024 y ahora divide su tiempo entre ambas ciudades.
El 9 de abril, Colatura lanzó I Wanna Get Better , el sencillo principal de su próximo EP If I’m Being Honest , disponible el 1 de agosto a través de Easy Does It Records. Producido por Nixon Boyd (Hollerado, Dizzy), el EP suena como una serie de confesionarios nocturnos: introspectivos, nostálgicos, dolorosos y, en última instancia, catárticos. Jennica: «I wrote this song when I was feeling stuck in life and like I’d let my younger self down. In high school, I had all these dreams for the future and felt like I had so much promise, but adulthood hasn’t quite measured up and has been a lot harder than I anticipated. So the song is a love letter to my past self—an apology for not yet living up to her expectations and a reminder to savor youthful innocence while you can. It’s nostalgic, a little self-pitying, but ultimately still hopeful». We shot the video around the UWS of Manhattan, where I grew up, and filmed the band shots in my old elementary school auditorium.
Colatura makes music that lives in the in-between – sometimes dreamy, sometimes heavy, laced with fuzzy guitars, undeniable hooks, and raw emotional storytelling. Long a fixture in the Brooklyn scene, the band relocated to Pittsburgh in 2024 and now splits their time between both cities.
